Vicino/lontano: the 7th edition

The 7th edition of Vicino/lontano has ended...! In Udine we had some very interesting meetings from the italian cultural scene, like Alessandro Bergonzoni and Gian Antonio Stella, plus a very special guest: Armand Gatti!
Although it is a very hard work (I think I had my toughest 2 months in my entire life), every year I'm very happy to collaborate with such a great organization. Vicino/lontano is Udine's main cultural festival with meetings, dibates, exhibitions and theatrical shows. The main event is the Premio Terzani International Letterature Award with a special theatrical award ceremony. The 7th edition was focusing on work, law and rights, the power of web, of course the 150th anniversary of Italy. The other main topic was the power of Cina, since this year's winner of Premio Terzani was the book 'Operaie' (Female workers) of Leslie T. Chang, a New york based cinese-american journalist.
See you next year!

Here is a short description in italian:
-

Festa universitaria vicino/lontano 2011

Hi everyone!
I was working really hard in these couple of weeks:
we're quite close to the opening of this years' vicino/lontano cultural festival, Udine's main cultural meeting!!! Plus: I have some other interesting collaborations, so it is difficult to have free time... outside, here is very sunny and people are starting to go to the sea and sunbathe... for me, I can hardly have some sleep :( ...anyways, I will sleep later!
So, here's some information about this years' university party! See you there!

Al cinema in autostazione

"Al cinema in autostazione" / "Going to the movie at the station" is a project by vicino/lontano in collaboration with SAF (bus system of Friuli Venezia Giulia), FUC (Railway system Udine-Cividale) and maremetraggio. This 2nd edition of the event was held at the new railway and bus station of Cividale, a small roman town near the slovenian border. We had 2 days of projection of some very interesting short films selected by maremetraggio which is an international short film festival and contest held every year in Trieste. I had a really good time! I'm looking forward to the 3rd edition :)

vicino/lontano: the festival | Udine 2010

Vicino/lontano was founded in Udine in October 2004 by a group of private citizens whose aims were to stimulate and promote a public reflection over the big “open” issues of our time, by exchanging different views, fields of study and languages.
Vicino/lontano-identity and differences at a time of conflict is the most important initiative promoted by the association: it is a cultural project organized into specific sections (discussion fora, meetings, lectures, exhibitions and film screenings), which in the last five editions has brought together in our town eminent scholars – philosophers, economists, sociologists, anthropologists, journalists, historians, writers, theologians and representatives of several religions – to discuss the important topical issues of our time. Among those who have attended the festival, we are proud to include Pascal Acot, Giuliano Amato, Marc Augé, Zygmunt Bauman, Didier Bigo, Joanna Bourke, Lucio Caracciolo, Franco Cardini, Valerio Castronovo, Umberto Curi, Erri De Luca, Miklòs Hubay, François Jullien, Mohammad Khatami, Carlo Ginzburg, Serge Halimi, Gad Lerner, Perdrag Matvejević, Steve Olson, Boris Pahor, Carlo Petrini, Federico Rampini, Jeremy Rifkin, Pier Aldo Rovatti, Gayatri Spivak, Massimo Teodori, Gianni Vattimo, Salvatore Veca.
Every year since 2005 the central event of the festival is the award ceremony of the Tiziano Terzani International Literary Prize, founded by the association in collaboration with the Terzani family. The jury, presided by Angela Terzani, includes among its members some of the best Italian and foreign journalists. In its past editions, the prize was awarded to: François Bizot (Il cancello, “The gate”, 2005); Jonathan Randal (Osama, 2006); Anna Politkovskaja (to the memory of, 2007); Fabrizio Gatti (Bilal, “Bilal”, 2008) and Ahmed Rashid (Caos Asia, “Descent into chaos”, 2009).
